Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 1, 2026 · Applies to heicv.pages.dev and the HEICV browser extension

The short version: We collect nothing. Your photos and videos never leave your device. All conversion happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly.

1. What we do not collect

Unlike most online converters, HEICV does not upload your files anywhere. Specifically, we do not collect:

2. How conversion works

When you drop a HEIC photo or a Live Photo into the converter:

No network request containing your media is ever made. You can verify this by opening your browser's DevTools → Network tab while converting: you will see no upload traffic.

3. What is loaded over the network

The page itself loads these static assets from our hosting provider:

ResourcePurpose
main.jsApplication logic
assets/libheif/libheif-bundle.mjsHEIC decoder (open source)
vendor/gifenc.esm.jsGIF encoder (open source)
workers/gif-worker.jsBackground encoding thread

These requests contain no information about your files.

4. Third-party services

Cloudflare hosts this website. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes standard server logs (IP address, user agent, timestamp) for security and abuse prevention. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

We currently do not use Google Analytics, AdSense, or any advertising network. If this changes, this page will be updated before any such service is activated.

5. The browser extension

If you install the HEICV extension, it requests only these permissions:

PermissionWhy
storageRemember your preferences locally
tabsOpen the converter in a new tab when you click the toolbar button
host_permissions for heicv.pages.devDetect that the extension is installed, to enable local file picking

The extension contains no conversion logic and never reads your files. Its manifest declares data_collection_permissions: none.

6. Cookies and local storage

We do not use tracking cookies. We may store your UI preferences (such as output format) in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and can be cleared at any time via your browser settings.

7. Children's privacy

This service is not directed at children under 13. Since we collect no personal data, we do not knowingly collect information from children.

8. Your rights

Because we store no personal data on our servers, there is nothing for us to export or delete on your behalf. All data associated with your use (preferences) lives solely in your browser and is under your control.

9. Open source

Our conversion stack relies on open-source software: libheif (LGPL), gifenc (MIT). You are welcome to audit them.

10. Changes to this policy

If we ever change how data is handled, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date. Material changes (such as adding analytics or ads) will be announced on the homepage.
